UBI Debate

Does anyone want to play devil's advocate today? If so, your prompts will be slightly different. Yeeeoooop if you're game.
Step 1: Two Minutes
Write down the FIRST assumption that pops into your mind about...
- Why some people are unemployed, on welfare, or in poverty in general
- What the purpose of work is (try to name three)
- The efficacy or purpose of capitalism
- What you would do with your time if you didn't have to work to receive an income
Step 2: Let's get some more background info (20 minutes)
- Watch: Interview with Presidential candidate, Andrew Yang on how he’d pay for UBI
- Watch an argument AGAINST UBI
- Read: “F Work”
Step 3: Discuss/Debate/Duke it out (20 minutes)
- To what extent did these sources challenge or confirm your assumptions from the starter? (either you as YOU or "you" as the devil's advocate)
- What would you do if you didn't have to work to receive an income?
- Is it ethical to make a living without a job? Would it feel like cheating to get something for nothing?
- How would school have to change if we were to embrace a reality like the author of "F Work" envisions?
- Could UBI be a better approach to development in the United States? What about world wide?
