Learning Goals:
Agenda:
1. Class Biz
2. Powerpoint Lecture (this is the powerpoint for most of this week should you miss class)
*open this to follow along in class today!
3. Ted Talk (see below): "A Third Way to Think About Aid" by Jacqueline Novogratz
(Founder of Acumen): Really interesting aid model!
*This Ted Talk argues that it is not an either/or scenario regarding aid (Either we cut off aid completely, or we continue to dump more in thoughtlessly). Rather, it's about WHAT type of aid we're sponsoring and how that money is used.
- Understand the essential question for the last phase of our course
- Differentiate between top-down v. bottom-up approaches to fighting poverty and macro vs. micro foreign aid efforts
- Examine two specific examples of effective approaches to fighting poverty
Agenda:
1. Class Biz

- Really important to NOT miss class next week! (we’re beginning the project and it’s critical to be a part of the process to wrap your head around this project).
- Look at the updated calendar together for the last month of our course
